RHS Plants for Pollinators

Phygelius x rectus 'Salmon Leap'

Cape Fuchsias are native to South Africa, but are surprisingly hardy. This British selection makes a bushy, upright plant with green foliage and clusters of tubular hanging blooms of salmon pink. Best situated in sheltered areas of the garden. An excellent container plant, allowing some shelter to be given in very cold spells.

Plant Care

Keep well watered until firmly established. Plant into any good garden soil, avoiding wet areas. Trim back to 6 inch or so in mid-spring.

Height/Width

Water thoroughly, or stand pot in a container of water for half an hour before planting. Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball. Remove the pot, place the plant in the hole so that the root ball is level with the surrounding ground and refill, firming if necessary. Keep well watered in dry weather. Feed in spring with a good, general fertiliser.
