RHS Plants for Pollinators

Crocosmia x crocosmiiflora 'George Davison'

Hardy Crocosmia or 'Montbretia' is a tough and resilient plant that quickly forms an established clump, providing arching stems of starry, golden blooms, above green, sword-like foliage. The nectar rich blooms will attract bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects. Easy to grow in open borders or in plant containers, providing rich colour in the garden and attractive cut flowers for decoration.

Plant Care

Keep well watered until firmly established. Plant into any average garden soil, avoiding wet areas. These plants die down in winter to re-grow each spring.

Height/Width

Water thoroughly, or stand pot in a container of water for half an hour before planting. Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball. Remove the pot, place the plant in the hole so that the root ball is level with the surrounding ground and refill, firming if necessary. Keep well watered in dry weather. Feed in spring with a good, general fertiliser.
